Long Distance (World Ranking Event). MASS START*
Map:
“Las Loberas”. It’s a 80% new map, made by Portuguese cartographers Rui Antunes
and Jose Batista in September 2012, and examined in December 2015 by Lorca-O
technical staff.
Scale > 1:15000 Equidistance > 5 meters for M/F
elite categories
Scale > 1:10000 Equidistance > 5 meters for rest of
categories.
Characteristics of terrain: Typical Mediterranean
forest with moderate elevation and a great quantity of details. Watercourses
and dells are plentiful in this area and sometimes could be a challenge to
chose the itinerary. The course speed will be variable, with areas where
vegetation and relief difficult significantly the movement (pine repopulation)
and others cleaner and fasters.

Because there are more than 30 checkpoints, SportIdent Card 6,
9,10, 11 or SIAC is required for the following categories: M/F Elite | M35A |
M40.
(Please, note that models in below category, doesn’t accept more
than 30 checks. In that case, the orienteer would be disqualified).
For M20A, M21A and M45 categories, is RECOMMENDED to use
SportIdent Card 6, 9,10, 11 or SIAC. Although these courses don’t exceed the 30
checkpoints, it may be the case that the orienteer checks some wrong
checkpoints.

Sprint race.
Map:
Coy urban area. It’s a new map made by the Spanish cartographer Juan Ferra
Casado last December and examined by LORCA-O technical staff.
Air + Control System was used for this
race for all people that have SIAC. The remaining competitors will have to use
the traditional control system SportIdent.
Scale: 1:4000 Equidistance > 5 meters for
all categories.
Characteristics of terrain: It’s mainly
an urban nucleus with anarchic constructions that shows a labyrinth of narrow
streets. An accurate lecture of the map will be necessary in order to get a
good race.
Air control system will be able for this race for those having SIAC-Card. The rest
could use normal SI-Card.
Course planner: Juan Ferra Casado
Estimated
winner times: M-E: 14-15 min. / F-E: 14-15 min.
Start: Time intervals start (at least 1
minute)

new map made by the Spanish cartographer José Antonio García Murcia last
December, and examined by LORCA-O technical staff.
Scale:
1:10000 Equidistance > 5
meters for all categories.
Characteristics
of terrain: One of the best places in Murcia Region for a middle distance race.
Slope is from soft to moderate and we’ll find clean forest areas that permit
fast speed, combined with slower others.
Rocky
elements, like stones and cliffs, as well as changes of vegetation.
Course
planner: Raúl Ferra Murcia.
Estimated
winner times: M-E: 32-33 min. / F-E: 32-34 min.
Start: 2

Special elements
on middle distance map:
Cartographer’s note:
Because
reforestation works, walls of loose stones were built for the land
stabilization. These walls, over the years, have been erode and some of them
have been reduced to piles of rocks. These elements are graphically represented
on the map of three different forms:
-A. Collapsed
walls (rocky areas) = symbol 210
-B. Height lower
than 1 meter = symbol 203 (short combs)
-C. Height 1 meter
or more = symbol 203.1
WARNING. All
orienteers should arrive in good time to the race area, specially for the long
distance race. Due to the MASS START, everybody will arrive at the same time,
and parking entrance and numbers collection will probably be collapsed. The
number use is indispensable to participate and the organization doesn’t provide
schedule modifications.
Orienteers
arriving late will take the start as possible, but he’s time will be started
with the mass start. To use the correct model of SportIdent card, according
instructions of the organization, as well as to be sure it’s “cleaned” and
“verified”, is responsibility of each orienteer.
Long Race course design
In order to keep the high technical course's performance, which could be detracted and became a "cross" due to the mass start, every orienteer will only have a single map, different from the rest of he's own category.
For this reason, we have design the itineraries so that every orienteer will go through it in a different way. NOTICE: At the end, everybody will have covered the same controls in the same direction.
Example 1.
In this version, we establish a central checkpoint that the orienteer has to check several times. From that point, the loop order is different for every orienteer. This kind of version allows the possibility of adding or removing loops, which also affects not only the checks number in the central checkpoint, but also the total checkpoints.
Here we have some examples of a triple loop with 4 checks in the central checkpoint.
Example 1.a. |
Example 2.a. |
Example 2.
This kind of version, unlike the one explained above, establishes many checkpoints to check more than once, combined with single-check checkpoints. As in version 1, version 2 also admits extension of the checkpoints. In the following example, we can see checkpoints to check twice and two checkpoints with single-check.
Example 2.a. |
Example 2.b. |
Before the final course design, new types of versions could be included.
It results, from the combination of these kind of versions, a great quantity of different itineraries. And…don’t worry, there will be long trials to choose itinerary, like in every worthwhile long distance race.
Antique map middle distance (1997) was not used to the new mapping.
